Tips to Make Your Signs Stand Out
It’s rather easy for your business’s signs to get lost among all the other signs and sights along the road. After all, shoppers and drivers are bombarded with signs looking to get their attention everywhere they go. So with this in mind, how do you go about getting your sign to stand out?
Here are a few tips:
- Keep it as simple as possible. Remember, most of the people who pass by your business are going to be doing so while driving, which means they have a very limited amount of time to pay attention to your signs (assuming they are being good, attentive drivers). This means that any signs with too many colors, words or designs are going to be distracting and a turn-off to these drivers. Therefore, keeping your ADA sign as simple as possible can actually help them to stand out. These signs should have a logo or business name, a simple color scheme and maybe a short tagline. Any more than this is likely to be excessive.
- Make good use of contrast. Contrast in signs isn’t just important when it comes to meeting ADA standards for interior signs, it’s also a good way to get the attention of passersby. Try using high levels of contrast between the words/images on the sign and the color of the background. Additionally, you can aim to use colors boldly in other ways. For example, you might consider isolating a couple letters by putting them in a different color than all the other letters on the sign. You might use a different colored border around the edge to help frame it. You have numerous options.
- Avoid symmetry. While symmetry may be pleasing to the eye, people are more likely to pay attention to a sign if it appears to be somehow imperfect. Examples of these imperfections could include words being out of alignment, or the shape of the sign not being completely perfect.
