What characteristics should an ADA-compliant Room Signs Have?

Raised Chacters: According to ADA guidelines, room name signs should have raised, tactile letters and numbers
All letters and numbers must be raised by 1/32 inch, have upper case style, and use sans serif or simple serif font types. Further, raised characters should be between 5/8 and 2 inches high.

Finish and contrast: ADA room name signs are required to have a matte, eggshell, or another type of non-glare finish. Additionally, there must be high level of contrast (70% is recommended) between background and lettering.
Contrast can be achieved by putting light characters on a dark background or vice versa.

Mounting specifications: ADA-compliant room signs should be installed on the wall adjacent to the latch side of the door. For double-leaf doors, signs should be mounted on the nearest wall.
Further, signs must be mounted between 48 and 60 inches from the floor in a location with at least 3 inches of clearance.

Braille text: Text on ADA room name signs must be accompanied by Grade 2 domed or rounded braille.
Certain dimensions of braille text must also be met, including 1.5 mm to 1.6 mm dot base diameter and 0.6 mm to 0.9 mm dot height.
